We tend to give a great deal of consideration to our face over other parts of our bodies thinking that it is the only area which makes us look more youthful. This notion cannot be farther than the truth. In order to have a youthful and rested appearance, everything from your head to toe counts. Your lips are no exception. They might be a small part of your face, but neglecting them will eventually backfire on you. Plump and moisturized lips freely give out the vibes of happiness, purity and youth. So, how do we care for one organ of our body, which is ultimately responsible for how we deliver our speech and beautiful smile to the outer world?
As we age, so does our skin and all parts of our body. Considering that lips are no exception, I find that doing the procedures listed below (or at least 3-4 times a week) will help your lips stay wrinkle free, plump, pink and protected.
Lip Massage
These steps are best to be undertaken when you are winding down to sleep and cleaning your face. If you have been using a lipstick during the day, make sure to clean it off with a makeup remover, in order not to have any residues left before massaging your lips. Follow it up with a lint free tissue soaked in clean water. One of the biggest things I recommend doing, is looking into massaging your lips every night with a moisturizing cream or a clear lip ointment like Lukas Pappaw. Do it ever so gently as you do not want to introduce unwanted wrinkles around your lips. Massaging lips will increase the blood circulation to them increasing rosiness and adding slight plumpness.
If you have some wrinkles around your lips and want to smoothen them out a little, use two index fingers to gently stretch out the wrinkles in the opposite direction of their appearance. For example, stretch out vertical lines horizontally using the two index fingers of both hands.
If you are noticing a sagging around your mouth, give it a boost by slightly lifting them up by pinching the sides of your lips with your thumbs and index fingers. Do this process for 3 counts and hold each pinch for about 3 seconds.
Exfoliation
Exfoliating to shed dead skin and induce some greatly wanted glow of your skin is also quite viable for your lips. So, don’t forget to include your lips when you are exfoliating your face. If you wish to exfoliate your lips separately, I highly recommend keeping a little jar of homemade coconut oil + brown sugar concoction on your counter. Coconut oil will also highly moisturize your lips.
Honey Mask
Honey mask can be applied at any time of the day, as it will give your lips a much needed rest and deep moisturization. While just applying a moisturizing cream will improve the surface of the lips, applying this mask will ensure the penetration of the healing properties of honey to the deep layers of the skin, underneath the epidermis. If you are using this mask as a nightly regiment, spread very little amount of honey over your lips and cover them with a small piece of square plastic wrap, making sure the wrap covers the entire area. Give your lips this much needed honey mask for about 5 minutes. Once the time is up, pat a little bit of moisturizer on your lips and you are ready to hit the sack!
UV protection and moisturization during the day
Please chose your lip coverage wisely during the day. Do not forget that we tend to ingest whatever is on our lips. Chose a lip balm or a moisturizer that is organic and which will give you good UV protection. If you must use a lip color or a ruge, using a primer might be a good idea. Lip primer will help the color stay longer and it will aid against caking of the lip liner. This is a good method to avoid adding more of the unnecessary product. Primers also prevent you from trying to tug away the unwanted caking with your hands, damaging the skin on your lips more. As you get back home, clean out your lips and put a nice coat of moisturizing balm as Lukas Papaw.
Vitamin E against discoloration
If you are running into a problem of discolored lips due to too much UV exposure, feel free to use a little bit of vitamin E oil on your lips. You might as well use the massaging tip mentioned above by utilizing vitamin E oil instead of a regular moisturizer. Vitamin E is one of the most important antioxidant because it protects cell membranes from free radicals, making them less likely to cause damage and discoloration.
