Manti Recipe (Meat Dumplings)

By Lola Elise 44 Comments

Manti

Anyone up for dumplings? :) I know we are up for them a lot. Well, maybe once in a couple of weeks for sure. Manti (a.k.a. dumplings) are very native to Uzbek people. Although a lot of people associate dumplings with Oriental kitchen, the roots of this dish go to Central Asia and nomadic tribes of Timurids and Chingizids. It is believed that the latter spread the idea to other regions of the world while traveling.

Lemon Scented Pull Apart Coffee Cake

Lemon Scented Pull Apart Coffee Cake #57

This loaf-like dessert with a long name of “Lemon Scented Pull Apart Coffee Cake” is my sister’s favorite. We always make it when she is in town. For some reason, it comes out twice as good with her involvement. I say, she has her own ways with this cake :P This particular dessert is soooo fluffy, so lemony (at time orangy) and with the cheese icing, it is hard to find a substitution for it! Irresistible!

Egg Noodle Chicken Soup

I first tried the Egg Noodle Chicken Soup when our friend Olga and Nikolai made it as a first course during a luscious dinner. I simply loved it! It was like a love potion mixed into the soup. To spread the love, I asked Olga to give me the recipe. She kindly posted it on her new food blog and I shamelessly stole the recipe :P

Baked Pears With Blue Cheese

By Lola Elise 9 Comments

Baked Pears Main #1

We often have guests at our house. I love gathering friends, having a nice dinner with them, playing games, talking and enjoying the evening. I try not to make the same food every time we invite someone over. So, I look for new recipes, work on substitutions or just come up with my own combination for a new dish. When I first made Baked Pears with Blue cheese, my husband fell in love with it right away! Now he keeps on bringing more pears and blue cheese to have enough of this delicious entree at his immediate disposal.

Meat Pie

Meat Pie #1

I got this super-duper meat pie recipe from my sister-in-law(my brother’s wife), who inherited it from her mother. Ultimately, it was brought to my attention by my sister Kamola. We love this meat pie so much that it finds its way to our stomachs quite often. The crust is just to die for. With a perfect crispness, it melts in your mouth, leaving you craving for more! I have been planning to document it for a while now. In fact, I thought that I had already posted it a while ago and I was surprised to find out that I never did… Well, anyway, here it is ladies and gentlemen!

Banana Cake

By Lola Elise 20 Comments

Banana Cake

Here is the deal. We buy bananas because at times our children eat a lot of them. But next time we buy them almost all of them end up in the trash! If you find yourself in a similar situation, your best bet is to bake something with bananas in order to avoid the shameful waste. Ultimately, this banana cake will come in handy. Unlike famous banana breads out there, this banana cake is moist due to the usage of less flour and addition of yogurt. What could be more pleasant than not wasting perfectly fine bananas and enjoying an amazing dessert?

Cauliflower Soup Recipe

By Lola Elise 6 Comments

Cauliflower soup

Today’s recipe is dedicated to this fine vegetable called Cauliflower. To be precise, it is dedicated to a Cauliflower Soup. Need I say how healthy this creamy-looking vegetable is? OK, you talked me into it! Cauliflower is full of dietary fiber, rich in vitamin C and a perfect fighting remedy against multiple types of cancer. That is if you choose to cut it in pieces and eat it raw. I am not sure if it keeps the cancer fighting benefits once cooked.  It is also very low in carbohydrates and a perfect substitute for potatoes in many meals. If you like broccoli, you’d better like cauliflower :) They are the same type of “animal” except for the color.
